     "WOW : (" 2009-02-19
    By Randa (Wisconsin)
Ok I don't know where to start, as far as pieces go everything ever needed is included as far as mounting different Tv's. The top bracket tilts for use on a vaulted ceiling however you can't get the screw tight enough to stop the tilt, which makes the tv look like it's taking a nose dive. The joint where the bars meet the swival bar is for junk, it bends alot at this joint, and no it's not supposed to bend. It hooks to the tv wonderfully, however the tv seams a little top heavy. We have the back bracket up all the way (on our 50 inch tv) there is a tilt divice but it is NOT needed because the tv tilts/pulls away from the top of the bar. The bar is in no way straight up and down. The tv sits at a tilt of more than 15 degrees without the tilt device tilted any. The 360 degree swival works but as you turn the tv around the bar freaks out and makes you think the tv is going to hit the floor. I would not purchase this again, and now we have nothing to hang our Tv. I guess the biggest mistake in the design are the bars, there just not right. Sorry cheetah company but I just couldn't give this a good review. However if you reemburse me I'll give you as a company a good review.

     "new era of watching" 2009-09-07
By Bele (Menlo Park , CA USA)
The new Sony we purchased fulfills or exceeds all our expectations. We have looked at a lot of different LCD-TVs and we found this to have the overall best picture in all different environmental situations. The picture is warm and bright and shows no weaknesses even with fast moving pictures. You can get less expensive LCDs but we find this Sony to be worth its price. I used to have a Samsung LCD back in Europe. This one rocks.

"Poor Sournd Quality at low volume levels from internal speakers" 2009-09-07
By E. Bialek (East Amherst, NY United States)
First - I like the video. I installed the firmware upgrade and the auto-dimming problem is gone.

Second - the Sound out of the internal speakers is terrible at low volume levels (10 on the TV's scale). This TV is used in a bedroom - usually at low volume levels with its internal speakers. There is a lot of background noise so that at low volume settings the noise is louder than the programming audio level. My 15 year old NEC had better audio than this box.

Doesn't matter what programming source : DVD or QAM HD cable on the internal tuner.

A tech is coming over to look into it.

I have not tried this with a receiver yet.

If this is the way the Audio was designed, then don't buy it for standalone use.

    Updated 9/9/09

Tech was here today to work on the TV. He replaced the main board with one that was overnighted from the factory. No change. It still has an annoying amount of static on the audio at low volume levels (10 and under).

     "Is it a Sony?" 2009-08-27
    By Michael Wilson (Port Townsend,WA)
Is this really a Sony product? I've had some excellent TVs over the years from Sony, including a 42" LCD that I purchased in 2008 with great results. However, this set has had issues from the beginning that were not resolved by the patch and numerous calls to Sony's tech help service. The problem with the auto dimming feature only bothers me some of the time but what is perhaps the most irritating is the terrible internal speakers with this unit. It really gets mushy sound performace and I will eventually have to connect it to an outside receiver to get past this issue. After the patch did nothing to correct the problems I had this in a Sony repair facility for two weeks to replace parts and make things right with the picture and the sound. Upon return, it was simply more of the same. I've noticed that Amazon is no longer selling this model. Maybe they've recognized the issues. For those that are getting good performance, you're the lucky ones. This will be the last time that I buy a TV on reputation alone, sight unseen. I really wonder if the apparent lack of quality in this model comes from Sony simply slapping their label on some low-end manufactuers work?

     "Amazing television..." 2009-08-14
    By Deeperdarker (Montrose, CA USA)
This Sony 40 inch 1080p tv is amazingly beautiful. I had a Panasonic 52" 1080i rear projection lcd for years that I thought looked pretty good, until it died. I set a budget of $1000 to get a replacement, and came home with this Sony. The 1080p picture immedietly blew me away. Though slightly smaller than my old hd tv, the clarity and vibrant imagry more than make up the difference. I watched an hd feed of "Quantum of Solace" and was amazed at the detail and the crisp picture, no matter how fast the action on screen. No hint of the auto-dim feature from earlier models that bothered so many. I work in the movie industry and a fiend for detail and picture quality; this Sony Bravia has proven itself to be professional grade in every way.

"Excellent Value on a Gorgeous LCD" 2009-08-08
    By K3RN5Y (iowa)
Don't listen to the complaints about the auto-dimming feature because it is no longer an issue. Sony released an update that allows you to choose low, medium, high, or NO auto-dimming. If the auto-dimming annoys you then you can go into the settings and turn it off. My TV came with this update already installed on it.

    PROS:

    Great bang for your buck.

The picture quality is absolutely stellar.

The features and inputs are plentiful.

    CONS:

Speakers are horrible (This is actually a non-issue because anyone with a large TV should have a sweet sound system)

Glossy Black bezel and stand attract dust which triggers my OCD and makes me clean it every 5 minutes.

     "Exellent!" 2009-09-22

"Sony Quality Control Sinks To All-Time Low" 2009-09-20
    By Stapler (California, USA)
A few weeks ago I purchased a SONY KDL32L5000 720p LCD-TV from Amazon, which was shipped from one of their approved associates, J&R Elecronics, Inc.

Upon arrival, it was found the unit had (according to Sony Tech Support) a "board problem" which prevented the display of "program name and content description", and the TV would have to be shipped to Sony (at my expense) for repair or possible replacement. (Sony would not guarantee that a new unit would be supplied, if a replacement was made.)

I elected to return the unit to J&R, who to their credit provided a prepaid UPS shipping label. As it would take approximately 2 weeks before J&R received the defective unit, give me credit for the return, and reshipped a replacement, I elected to purchase another unit so immediate shipment could be made, with my account to be credited upon receipt of the original defective return.

About a week later, the second Sony TV arrived. Upon opening the shipping box and setting up the TV, it was found that the LCD screen was "cracked" internally (not visable until power was applied) and that it was inoperable. Another call was made to J&R, and this second Sony has now been repacked and we are awaiting pickup by UPS for return to J&R for yet another credit.

I wish to quickly state that everyone I have talked to at J&R Electronics have been extremely helpful, and I would not hesitate to do business with them in the future. They are very professional, friendly and caring.

On the other hand, Sony Support (they mainly use off-shore outsourcing personnel) is absolutely horrible and these "support" people have absolutely no technical knowledge to assist the caller. (Half the time one also gets disconnected and has to call back and start at the beginning of the waiting line again.)

Call it bad luck, however EVERY single Sony product I have purchased over the last 6-8 years have had "out-of-box" problems, requiring either exchange or repair. A few years ago, my very expensive Sony "book-shelf" AM-FM-SW Radio-CD combo developed problems. It spent over 6 months in Sony's Company Owned Burbank Service Center. They could not repair it and finally had to send it to Sony's Engineering Labs in Arizona to be repaired, which took another 2 months to complete. To this day the system still does not work properly, with one audio channel constantly turning itself on and off, at will. I have many other Sony QC problems I could cite, but won't bore you with the details.

It is no wonder that, today, Sony are having financial problems. Their product QC is very poor and their support even worse.

     "Not worth it." 2009-09-02
By C. Hsueh (San Jose, CA, USA)
Today I go to Best Buy to see the 32" LCD TVs. Sony 32L5000 is one of the worst two 32" TVs I had seen there. (Another one is a unknown brand TV.) Best Buy play the same TV show on all the TVs, so it's quite easy to tell the difference. 32L5000 has terrible detail. Much worse than Samsung LN32B360, LG 32LH20, Toshiba, Sharp, etc. If you really liked SONY, buy some higher level SONYs. Never never try this entry level SONY. You don't have to believe me, just go to some retail stores and trust your own eyes.

     "Bravias have problems" 2009-08-29
    By Rarely Review (USA)
Be aware if you buy one of these that it may not last long. I bought the Model KDL-32L4000 in November 2008. Nine months later the screen went blank and the TV could not be turned off nor would any other controls or buttons work. Fried after nine months. Before you buy check the Bravia series info online - clearly there is a problem either with the design or the manufacture of these. Looks nice until it dies young.

"Great TV, Good delivery service from Amazon" 2009-09-14
    By QB
I was back and forth between this TV and the SamSung LN46B750. The price on this dropped to $1649 a few weeks ago, while the Samsung TV went up. The Contrast ratio for this one was 100000:1 compare to Samsung 150000:1, but really I can't tell with my eyes. I don't trust Samsung yet, but I trusted Sony XBR reputation. However, the price, and buy online with free delivery was nice to term saving money. I updated the firmware without any problem. Nice TV. I can't see any negative. I was very hesitant to buy Online since I don't know how it would turn out in case I need to return, but the AMaZON delivery was great. They unbox, set TV up, turn it on before I signed the acceptance. The delivery company they used was PILOT, which has a couple of guys in their 40's or 50's. Very nice guys, very gentlemen. Now I see the price went back up, I am glad I bought it. The sounds for this Sony TV is much better than the Samsung when I check it out at Bestbuys.

"Sony 46XBR9 is an excellent TV and worth the price" 2009-09-14
    By J. Cartledge (Jacksonville, FL)
Sony BRAVIA XBR Series KDL-46XBR9 46-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV, BlackI did extensive research to determine the best quality TV for my bedroom and settled on Sony's 46XBR9. The picture is excellent and the built-in internet capability is exceptional. We rent from Amazon movies all the time, which has saved money on our cable bill since we were able to reduce our plan. The other TVs I compared were Samsung's LED, which is nice and light, but I worry about the reliability now, expecially since the technology is new. I have seen both pictures and the XBR9 compares well with the LED. Sony's XBR8 has the ultimate picture, but it is pricy and lacks the internet capability. I also have a 52XBR6, which has a very vivid picture and I love it. I haven't seen much difference with the faster speed of the XBR9, but it's nice to have it for high-speed action. The price with Amazon was exceptional, and you want to watch prices from day to day because they vary several hundred dollars sometimes. Amazon usually doesn't adjust the price you paid if a new price goes down in 30 days, but they were nice enough to do it in my case. I also bought surge protectors from Amazon, but bought my heavy duty wall mount from another site. Amazon is excellent and my new Sony was delivered with "white glove" efficiency and care. Great TV and purchase experience.

     "Audio/SOund Output Sucks" 2009-09-13
    By M. Osaben (Atlanta, USA)
After replacing a broken 46" samsung DLP with this unit I have tried for weeks now to get the TV to generate any sort of decent audio output to no avail. Video output looks good but I continue to struggle with the audio that souds like the TV is trapped inside of a tin box.

Audio output and resulting sound is fine when you pump it into an external surround sound system. However, the audio from the TV itself is crap.

    Not completely satisfied.

     "Magnificent" 2009-09-12
    By Michael D. Waggaman
Outstanding product. I couldn't be happier with this TV. Picture and features are excellent. It was delivered, freight free, quicker than a local dealer could have gotten it ordered for me. PLUS, including a stunning matching stand saved me about $975 over a local dealer price.

     "Wonderful TV" 2009-09-11
    By David S (Albany, NY)
Tried the LG 47 inch LH40 and then the Samsung 46 inch LED B6000. Had both for about two weeks before returning them. The Sony not only has more features but has a much better and consistent picture than the previous two. The LG has a major lip synch problem and the Samsung had a great picture as long as you were in front of it. Anything slightly to the side and the picture was unwatchable. The sound on this Tv is great as well. Definately a wonderful TV and I strongly recommend it.

     "What a picture!" 2009-09-14
    By S&S H (CA)
The picture on this Sony is absolutely amazing! I especially appreciated that connecting the components to it was simple. The only issue that I have with this tv is that Sony could have done better with the sound. In my opinion, the sound is OK but not what one would expect from Sony. We decided to buy a Sony soundbar and have totally enjoyed it since!

     "Happy and unhappy" 2009-09-13
    By Maureen Tierney (usa)
We love the look of our Sony Bravia XBR Series KDL-52xBRP 52 INCH 1080P 240 HZ LCD HDTV TV. It arrived on schedule and in perfect condition. The Picture is very very good, however our unhappy note is turning it on.It is a pain. It will not turn on with the all/on on the remote. It is very frustrating. After you press the all/on on the remote" bravia "shows on the screen and a second later "hdmi 1" appears on the upper left corner--after another second the "hdmi 1 "disappears and then we have to use the up and down channel button to get the picture. We had a Sony Rep come to take a look at the problem but he could not fix it. We also had Comcast come and check all the cables and signals and we were told that they were ok.We purchased the monster hdmi cable and we still have the same problem. Is anyone else having this problem??

     "52" Sony Bravia" 2009-09-13
By Bob Timberlake (St. Petersburg, FL)
This product was selected after much on-line shopping for the best, and most technologically advanced, product in this size range. We already owned a Bravia for the master bedroom and are very pleased with it.

We are extremely satisfied with how it performs in a very bright room. We had feared that we would have to be constantly adjusting the back lighting, but we have left it on the mid-range setting and not messed with it since the first day. The picture is beautiful night and day without adjusting. The screen does not reflect the windows and other bright objects in the room like our previous TV did.

We now use the USB port on the side whenever we want to show photographs from our digital camera. The quality is absolutely amazing. Even old family slides that were scanned via the Canon 8800F are stunning.

We have hooked up a wireless bridge to the TV's ethernet port and can view YouTube and other internet sites.

"Good TV, but not great" 2009-09-10
    By M. Dolch (Chicago, IL)
Good TV overall, but falls a little short of greatness. This set is replacing a 50" Sony Projection LCD (720p) TV. I wanted something smaller and newer so voila.

First of all, the item came quickly and was well packaged from Amazon. I am impressed by the look of the TV itself, the double edge bevel is classy - as are the down/rear firing speakers.

After calibrating the TV ([...] and getting everything hooked up via. HDMI, the picture is overall excellent. I am impressed by the Motionflow smoothness, and also the depth of colors and how true they are. Watchmen looks great, as does PlanetEarth, or even regular HDTV shows. PS3 games look good as well, the refresh rate is solid! Standard def (~480) looks ok, but then it looks ok in general. I am also impressed by the built in speakers, they sound good and the rear/side firing tweeters help to give a better surround presence. Glare isn't much of an issue either, which is nice.

So why not 5 stars? Well the TV is close to 5 stars, but two things kept it from being the best of the best. First of all, the screen has some uniformity issues on pure blacks. There are some lighter "splotches" on the corners that are noticeable in very-dark (nearly all black) scenes. Most of the time it doesn't bother me, but when you have horizontal bars or a night scene (ex. The Dark Knight Blu Ray) it is a little disappointing. I'm over it, but it did bug me at first. These issues aren't as bad when viewing the TV straight on I've noticed. More than about 45 degrees off angle, tho, and the become more noticable, tho not a deal breaker IMHO.

Secondly the Bravia interactive content is so-so. I am curious as to how the NetFlix material will be. Otherwise, whats on it now seems mostly like clips and previews. I'll stick to Comcast OnDemand and BluRays for the time being... I hope newer content and an expansion of services makes the feature a bigger boon in the future.

Overall an excellent TV, but the uniformity/streaming content are a slight demerit. That said, it's overall an excellent set, but not perfect. The Sony XBR7 LED LCD does not appear to have these problems, but it has it's own big problem - price! I'm sure in 5 or so years I'll want the newest (insert technology) anyhow! Might as well enjoy this train for now!

"I Bought the USED Amazon Set" 2009-09-12
By Gary P (Geneva, Illinois USA)
I was a little worried when I bought a used TV. When it came the set had obviously been opened and set up. The manuals were highly worn and the remote contained batteries. The set however looked new. It set up fine and has run fine for a month. It is just like new and I got it for $100 less than the lowest price I could find.

     "32XBR9 - amazing picture" 2009-09-04
By William J. Clark (Ohio, USA)
I purchased the Sony 32XBR9 after carefully reading all possible reviews on this site and others. I decided after my experiences with other Sony products, it was worth the money. I ordered the set and was told delivery could be expected by September 3, 2009. Amazon has speciality shippers handle their television sets, not UPS or Fedex. The TV arrived in the Columbus depot where the shipper Pilot turned it iver to a third party carrier. There was where the problem started. The third party shipper only delivered in this area once a week or when they had a big enough load to justify the trip. Well, the only day they would bring it was Tueday, Sept 8, almost a week after the promised date. I called Amazon customer service and complained that since the TV was a gift and the party was September 4, it wouldn't do me much good. They called Pilot, and a guy named Zack from the shipper moved heaven and earth and had another third party shipper pick up the set and had it here on the 4th in the morning, I can't begin to tell you how impressed and appreciative I was. They even refunded shipping costs even though shipping was free! Great service Amazon and Pilot!

Now back to the TV (which is what this review was actually about). The TV gets an excellent picture. I immediately did the software update from Sony which was a breeze. The sound is about right for that size TV. The picture is amazing. Hookup was fairly easy though I did not get sound on HDMI2. Still haven't figured that one out yet and may actually have to read the manual. I went into settings and set the picture to vivid (default is standard). Really made a difference, though it is ceratinly a matter of taste. When I went to input, it highlights the inputs that are active so there is little confusion getting to the peripherals. I can't say I noticed the problems that resulted in the update as I put it in first off because of the reviews, but it certainly looks great now. It does take a few seconds to come on or change inputs, but I am really not so impatient that it bothers me. The picture is worth the wait If you are looking for a 32 inch LCD- this is the one! ....and Amazon beat best buy by almost 300 dollars Sony BRAVIA XBR KDL-32XBR9 32-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV

     "Good TV" 2009-09-14
    By R. Gerrah
The response to channel changing is slow. The design is less innovative than competitors like Samsung. Overall it is a good HDTV and I am happy with this purchase.

"Best in class image quality" 2009-09-12
    By Victor Matveev
I chose this TV after spending about an hour in each of two different Best Buy stores, comparing the image quality on different TV sets with different in-store HDTV feed. It is my firm opinion that this TV is best-in-class among non-LED unit; I am particularly impressed with the contrast and color balance.

The only competitor is Samsung series-5 or series-6 HDTV. However, after comparing the Samsung and Sony for two hours, I found that both are very close in terms of contrast (and very impressive), but there is one important point where Sony was ahead: I found the skin tones to look much more natural on the Sony. If you watch a lot of movies like I do, this makes a big difference. Samsung series-6 had terribly over-saturated colors in store, worse than series-5. Now, of course this could be due to poor setting on the Samsung TVs, but I did go to two different stores, and results were the same. Also, the Samsung had severe motion artifacts on high-contrast material. To be fair though, some W-series Bravia had monstrous motion artifacts on low-res feed, but this V-series model seemed to be the best (better than the more expensive Sony models).

The contrast is so good the objects look almost 3D (same with the Samsung, which is excellent as well). The menu system on the Sony is great, easy to navigate. Can't compare other features, since I don't own a Samsung set.

There are a couple weaknesses, which may or may not be attributable to the set itself:

    1) Switching between HD and non-HD TV channels sometimes takes a couple seconds; sometimes the switch does not occur, requiring to turn either the cable box or TV off and back on

    2) If I route the sound from the DVD players into the TV via HDMI, and back from TV to the amp via RCA interconnect, audio disappears sometimes, I have to pause the movie off and back on. This could be the fault of the DVD player - I have no clue.

    3) With completely black screen input to the TV, the lack of complete low-luminance uniformity across the screen becomes noticeable. Then again, why would I care?

    Summary:

Pros: impeccable contrast, color balance and image quality. None of the more expensive units had better balanced color. Perfect on-screen menu navigation.

Cons: strange channel switching problems between HD and non-HD channels - could be the cable box problem. DVD audio occasionally disappears if piped through the TV set via HDMI (could be the DVD player issue, but it appeared with two different Panasonic DVD players).

"Excellent choice of another great Sony TV" 2009-09-11
    By Gator Gary (Gainesville, FL)
Very pleased with the ease of installation and quality of the picture. Out of the box and in to use in 30min. So far it is performing well. Must say the suns glare off the screen in the morning makes tangential viewing difficult. All in all its great.

"Great picture, but the POWER UP....?" 2009-09-02
    By Skip (Seattle)
I'm happy with this television in every aspect but one, and I see no on else commenting on this, so I'm starting to believe that I have a lemon. When the TV is completely off, and I power up, it takes 17 SECONDS for the sound and picture to come on. Anyone else?

     "Great TV" 2009-08-22
    By Mike
Much better than my previous TV, the KDL-40S3000 (720p). This TV is much brighter and better resolution. My previous TV required the remote control to point directly toward the lower right corner of the TV otherwise it didn't work (not vary more than 10 deg), but with this TV (in the same spot, same room) I can point the remote at almost 90 deg angle and it still works. I don't like having the light dimmer option on, like others have said; it can be found under setup by going : Setup-Eco-LightSensor (on/off). I do like the menu better than the 40S3000. I also like the favorites button. I can't think of anything negative to say.
